1 My uncle who has a PhD in computer software
Value: Mandatory for developing the app. So, its value is
the highest
Rare: It’s
moderately rare as programmer is job that require a lot of studying that limit
their labor pool compare to other job. Though there are more limited job like
surgeon who have even smaller labor pool
Inimitable: One
could hire another programmer to do the job, though once the program is develop
it become harder to imitate as programmer develop familiarity with tool used
that would have to obtain by competitor employer following the same process
mean they will start bit behind if attempted to copy after the product release,
but if before can be copy by anyone
Non-substitutable: Very hard as forming close relationship with
programmer is rare and take a lot of time. For me personally it’s irreplaceable
due to both my close relationship with my uncle and the fact I don’t personally
known another computer software engineer.
2 Contact info with the University of Florida
Value: Helpful in that it gives me chance to be able to
directly work with a university with online classes. This would make first test
run of integration by app with online class much easier.
Rare: Slightly rare in that sense there are a lot university
that offer an online class in the united states. But most university do not offer
this so their still limited number of universities that help with allowing one
to attempt app integration to assist in taking online classes
Inimitable: One must
have some way to get direct contact with the university of Florida.
Non-substitutable: Having contact in the united state with
another university offering online classes.
3 Computer
Value: one-time purchase but require tool for developing a
program
Rare: Not rare at all
Inimitable: Easy to do
Non-substitutable: Computer are requiring for programing and
other electronic like iPhone could not use to replace computer for this task.
So, it’s non-substitutable
4 Experience as UF online student
Value: Not mandatory but useful for gathering data for
analysis of customer base for this app.
Rare: Their a lot of
online student so not rarer at all
Inimitable: Depend
for how long you wish to keep gathering data. As lot of online student would be
willing to do interview
Non-substitutable: I guess you could ask student from other
university that have online classes
5 Small Financial capital
Value: Required to
publish an app
Rare: Very cheap so most
people
Inimitable: Most business have way larger Financial capital
so extremely easy to imitate by them and do to how small my financial capital
is can be substitutable by a lot of people also.
Non-substitutable: Money has not replacement, so it’s not
substitutable.
6 Smartphone
Value: a bit
expensive. Useful to test the result of the app in way most people would use
it.
Rare: A very common
object that a lot of people have
Inimitable: Very easy
for competitor to get their hand on an iPhone.
Non-substitutable: App are sold on smartphone of google or
apple at such it’s non-substitutable by other type of electronic device. As for
sake of testing how app is working for customer then only a smart phone can be
used
7 Spanish Writing Skill
Value: it not mandatory but useful for goal of expanding app
to Spanish speaking market.
Rare: not that rare due to Spanish being common second
language for a lot people
Inimitable: Very easy to employee person who know how to
translate English to Spanish as either fulltime employee or as freelance
translator.
Non-substitutable: While their other language they will
serve as resource that allowed you to enter other market. So, while useful they
will not serve substitute for Spanish writing skill/
8 Electricity utility
Value: Mandatory for
powering device previously mention.
Rare: Very common most people have access to it in the
united states.
Inimitable: Almost all competitor should have access to it.
Non-substitutable: A more expensive alternative to paying
your electric bill would be buying a large amount of hurricane generator. But
those are meant for emergency and thus wasteful action.
9 Contact with PR employer for Productivity app
Value: Provide a possible employee and advice for
advertising my product
Rare: Their a lot PR employee but one that work for
competitor in field of my app make it slightly rare source
Inimitable: Competitor
could easily have someone already experience with PR for this type of app
Non-substitutable: I
could look for other contact, but it would be bit difficult to find someone
else who work PR of a productivity app.
10 Newness
Value: Due to online class being a relatively new thing that
are very few competitors.
Rare: It quite rare
do the fact that it’s resource that as year past become more exhausted.
Inimitable: As competitor can enter market to get this
resource, but this also speed up the decrease of the supply of this resource
Non-substitutable: They’re not substitute for this resource
I would say that my most valuable resource would be my uncle
and contact with the university of Florida. Though if I had to pick it would be
the contact with University of Florida due to giving me access to resource that
would allow to better test by app by giving a way to directly integrate with an
online university instead of having to do indirectly. Giving me a great advantage
against a random competitor. While my uncle helps very valuable it more due to
my limited financial capital limiting my option when it come to hiring a programmer.
